The Wilson Law Firm limits its practice primarily to civil rights and employment law. Mr. Wilson litigated his first employment discrimination case in federal court 1971 and argued his first federal appeal in 1972. In the last five years his practice has consisted entirely of civil rights and employment cases, in both state and federal courts, and before administrative bodies ranging from school boards to the Florida Department of Administrative Hearings. He has argued civil rights issues before the U.S. Court of Appeals, and has appeared in an appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a cooperating attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union. Mr. Wilson has a regional practice and will take cases in Collier, Hendry, and Lee counties.
Background, Training and Experience
Douglas L. Wilson was born in 1941 and took his B.A. and J.D. degrees at the University of Arkansas. He was admitted to the bar of Arkansas in 1970 and the bar of Florida in 1992. He was admitted to the federal court bar in 1971, the bar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in 1972, the bar of the United States Supreme Court in 1974, the bar of the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida in 1993, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in 1993. From 1970 to 1977, he was in private practice with emphasis in civil rights and criminal law. During that period he was an assistant prosecuting attorney (two years) and a juvenile court judge (five years). He became director of the legal aid program founded by Hillary Clinton, serving fourteen counties in Arkansas, in 1977. In 1990, he became a staff attorney with Florida Rural Legal Services, serving counties from Lakeland to Naples, Lake Worth and Ft. Pierce. In 1994 he went into private practice. He takes cases in the areas of civil rights and employment law, and has represented clients in hundreds of jury and non-jury trials.
